MUSIC SCENE AT THE BISTRO

By BRANDON SEARCY

The diverse music scene that The Coffee Pot Bistro offers is one of the reasons that make it a popular hangout spot in downtown San Marcos.

The coffee shop offers a weekly music event entitled Jazz Mountain Thursday every Thursday at 8 p.m.

“Jazz night started regularly in January 2012,” said Breanna Murphy, international studies junior at Texas State University. “Yes, whenever we have jazz night there is definitely a lot more people in here and a lot of the performers have friends come with them to watch.”

Because Jazz night is a weekly event new performers are always welcomed.

The Coffee Pot also hosts concerts on select weekends that feature local musicians of all genres.

Sarah Arrendondo, family and child development junior at Texas State University, went to her first concert on Saturday night.

“I came to the coffee pot earlier and saw that a band called ‘I am Geronimo’ would be playing,” said Arrendondo. “Me and a few friends decided to come back later to watch the show.”

Along with I am Geronimo, single act Dillon Hutyra of Grey Sky Symphony performed his new album, Cloud Factory. Hutyra also performed a cover of Death Cab for Cutie’s “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” to a highly enthusiastic crowd who sang along with him.

With the small town atmosphere offered by The Coffee Pot Bistro, otherwise known as The Coffee Pot, and a mixture of music for customers to enjoy, it is easy to see why the coffee shop is so popular.
